It was only natural that the first book signing for The Coach Gaither Story would be at Shiloh Baptist Church in Salem, Virginia. Joe learned to play basketball on the court behind the church. He was spiritually awakened at Shiloh, under Pastor Adrian E. Dowell. Joe is the head deacon there.
